Hardware Set "B" (NOT A SHELL KIT)
Details: Taye's TourPro is next in line to the Studio Maple. The
principal difference is the custom premium birch-basswood shells. Otherwise
Tour Pro has the same lugs, mounts and heads. Included is the double braced
hardware set "B" with ball and socket type cymbal stands, tom mounts and
snare stand. All toms suspension mounted (RIMS type system). Retail on the
TourPro is $1699 with hardware and without the extra tom. Our price is
$995 for all 6 pieces and hardware (drum throne not included).
Please note: This set has been assembled for photos. It was tuned and
played on for a few minutes, so there are a few stick markings. The heads
are not broken in, because the set was not played enough for that to happen.

BUYING ADVICE
Advantages of buying a set that's assembled versus one that's unassembled
When buying a drum set, there's always some assembly required whether
you buy a set from a (physical) store or online. When you buy from a
store, the store will generally mount and tune the heads, and shouldn't
require an additional fee for doing so. You will most likely have to
pick them up at the store; unless they offer a delivery and setup
service (usually for a fee), you will have to set them up when you bring
them home (see below).
When you buy a set online, your set will usually come unassembled,
mainly because it's cheaper to ship. They're packed broken down as much
as possible in two or three boxes. Here are the advantages and
disadvantages for each scenario:
ASSEMBLED
(usually purchased from a physical store)
The obvious advantage is that the work has been done for you. Also
there's a salesman right there to point explain things.
The disadvantage is the drums may be a little more expensive than if
they were purchased online. You're helping to pay rent and assembly
time. In most states, you'll have to pay sales tax. Also, if you're
buying a set off the floor, it was assembled for use as a demo. That's
OK as long as the drums weren't played a lot. Look for some minimal
stick markings on the heads, which would be normal. It may even mean the
heads have been somewhat broken in, a good thing as long as they were
tuned right to begin with. In any event, you may still want to retune
the drums to your liking. You'll also need to figure out heights and
position of the bass drum spurs, tom mounts, bass drum and hihat pedals,
snare and cymbal stands and throne.
Although rare, an online dealer will sometimes offer a set assembled.
Heads are mounted and tuned, and the hardware was unwrapped and put
together at least once. Shipping may be a few dollars more, but it will
take you less time when you unpack them and presumably everything works.
UNASSEMBLED (usually purchased online)
The advantage of online purchasing is that you'll probably get the
best prices. You'll usually have shipping costs, but if you're
purchasing from an out of state dealer, you won't have sales tax. So
that can be a wash.
The disadvantage is that you won't have anyone to hold your hand.
Depending on your level of experience, expect to spend 1-2 hours putting
them together. At the very least, you will probably have to mount the
heads on the bass drum and tune all the drums to your liking. You'll
also have to unwrap the hardware and do a first time set-up of spurs,
mounts, pedals, stands and throne (Be sure to purchase a throne -- often
times hardware doesn't include this.)

Here's
Taye's PR on the TourPro:
Something beautiful happens
in a shell when you mix the right woods. The best of both worlds is
harnessed—precisely Taye Classic Design™ thinking in creating the
TourPro. We started with Basswood, an integral component in the sound of
those revered drums of the forties through the sixties. A softer wood
than Maple, its open grain structure diffuses the sound somewhat,
warming it. Then we add Birch, a wood with maple-like density to the
formula. What Basswood spreads out, Birch tightens up. The result is
centered attack with a pronounced roundness and complex overtones—very
much a vintage vibe. It’s a sound some say was lost, now reclaimed in
the Taye TourPro series, which are finished using the same lacquering
process as our StudioMaple.
TourPro Features
- Custom Premium Birch-Basswood.
- Warm and punchy sound, reminiscent of vintage drums.
- Available in choice of brilliant high gloss lacquers and two retro
coverings.
- SlideTrack bass drum tom mount, rack tom SuspensionRings,
BalTilter snare stand, PocketHinge Bracket, Articulated Claw Hook, and
2.3 mm. hoops are standard.
