Space permitting, we
leave sound files of sold cymbals up for awhile so that you can hear the
wide differences between two cymbals of the same model and size. It is especially helpful if
you're comparing Dream with other brands (see other
brands below). If you like a cymbal that has sold, be on the
lookout for another that has "that certain quality" you're looking for,
also email us and we'll keep a lookout for it.
DREAM BLISS
Dream says:
BLISS Cymbals are the flagship line
from Dream. BLISS are vintage style cymbals with a personality all their
own. They are totally hand hammered, microlathed plates with a low bridge,
small but clear bells and are quite thin. They are exceptionally resilient
and slightly soft on the stick. The undertones are warm and rich, an edge
of dragon’s breath, but never overpower the stick sound. The separation
between stick and overtones is clear and the pitch range is low and dark.
These cymbals are exceptionally versatile and are suitable for all musical
applications.
Not quite a Choice, but a very nice ride with lots of dimension. Good
ride, good crash and bell. A little washy, but controllable by your
touch. Try a sizzle chain, too.

longer decay than most BPTs. Nice dark low end.

Currently part of Rob's
collection. Throaty, rich, loud but not
obnoxious, great presence, these have become my go-to hats for every
situation. They knocked my old Istanbul's right off the stand. 9.5 out
of 10.
Throaty, rich with plenty of
presence. In general I have liked the Bliss 13" hats better than the
14's, although I haven't heard a new 14 in awhile. Haven't been able to
get any.
Throaty, rich, plenty of
presence. These rival my 14-04C's and I have to carefully consider
whether to keep them for myself. Possibly the best 13's so far.
One of a group of
particularly nice sounding splashes. Grab one while you can, because a
good splash is hard to find. Also check out our Contact 12" splashes
(below).

"SELLER'S CHOICE"
means this cymbal has been rated by Rob Zollman as an especially good
sounding cymbal and the best of all our in-stock cymbals of the same
brand, model and size.
This is simply his opinion and should be taken as such. Cymbals are by
nature unique and we recognize that everyone has their personal tastes.
But why does Rob feel qualified to state his opinion? Rob's been been
playing and collecting cymbals for over 40 years -- he currently has
over 60 cymbals in his personal collection. When people hear his
cymbals, they frequently ask if they're for sale. As Rob rarely parts
with one of his cymbals, he ends up rating and selecting cymbals for
students and other drummers. Back to top of Bliss

each type from our available list of cymbals. For example, for BASIC SET
#1, you pick one 20" ride, one 16" crash, one pair of 13" hats. For
"seller's choice" cymbals, the price will be adjusted up accordingly.
If you don't see a
configuration you like, email or call us for a custom configuration. If
you'd like us to match up a set for you, no problem! You're always welcome

Rob says: "I'm
a cymbalholic. Depending on how you view it, being a cymbal dealer is either
good fortune or a curse, sometimes both. It is a little like being an
alcoholic who tends bar.
"I play quite a bit of
live music, and my playing situations vary constantly from week to week,
from from big band to small group jazz,
medium rock and theater shows. Occasionally I'm in the studio. In order to
sound as good as I can, I make cymbal choices according to each type of
music, room and the drums I'm playing. I am now playing 90% Dream cymbals
(some of my old non-Dream favorites won't go away), because I continue to be
amazed at how good they sound.
"That being said, sometimes a cymbal that
sounds great in one situation just doesn't work in another. My solution, and
goal, has been to find one great cymbal of each size cymbal in each line
Dream makes. THis allows me to make up a full set of each line as a demo for
my own personal choices. However, I constantly mix and match freely, often
using a Bliss, Vintage Bliss and Contact in the same set.
"When I come upon a particular cymbal that
surpasses an existing choice cymbal, I may put the older one up for sale.
Call me at 802 345-1714 if you'd like to discuss a particular cymbal's
availability, as my thinking changes sometimes on a daily basis."

I recently came across a third 17" crash (BCR17-16C)
that I may keep. If so, I may sell the two 17's in the recording. In any
case, the 20, 16 and hats are keepers. I'm also auditioning a 14 (BCR14-09C).

top of page Dream says:
The CONTACT
series, known for a brighter stick presence and livelier response– like the
BLISS series–is also completely handmade, hand hammered and shaped. Composed
of B23 alloy they also feature a slightly deeper profile and
disproportionately larger bell promoting crash power and sustain. CONTACTS’s
also feature a medium-thin thin edge–another crash-promoting design feature.
The stick feel is very lively–the pitch higher but still rich and warm.
Faster speaking and higher energy, these the CONTACT series also possess
depth and complexity in the undertone and a shimmering wash that drives the
sound forward and upward. Like all of our cymbals, they exhibit a trademark
ease of speaking plus a crystalline ping that also opens up for short crash
punctuations strong enough to turn heads–big time!
Asterisk (*) designates ROB'S CHOICE Listen to Rob's
set of
Contacts. He's putting them together so that he can have a full demo set
on hand for his customers. Some may be for sale after Rob gives more thought
to which he will keep.
Part of Rob's personal
set, may become available. Nice example of a Contact C/R. Pleasant with presence.
Full sounding, no frequency gaps. Great for light to medium
rock, jazz.
Was part of Rob's personal set, but he decided to go with a 17" crash
instead. However, this is a superior cymbal. Goes both ways equally
-- crash and ride -- great set of frequencies.
Part of Rob's personal
set, but give it a listen. This
cymbal is the complete 17" crash -- deep and dark with just enough
sustain. And it's one of the few 17" cymbals I've found that is rideable.
Dream says:
The ENERGY series
offers a modern sound palette in a hand hammered cymbal. This bright,
hard-hitting line meets the needs of anyone playing primarily in an
amplified setting who is looking for a loud, bright, and penetrating
quality that will cut through the sound of the rest of the band and
deliver the energy of the drummer right to the audience.
Unique to the ENERGY line, the bell is left unlathed focusing the weight
of the cymbal in and around its centre. This results in a cymbal that has
a slightly exotic timbre with all the sound qualities that a rock or metal
drummer is listening for combined with a raw, unrefined look. ENERGY’s are
also excellent recording cymbals that will have you sounding great in the
studio.
They’re the perfect addition to your “For Recording Only” collection.
Asterisk (*) designates ROB'S CHOICE A few words about Dream Energy Cymbals We believe Energy cymbals are
consistently great sounding cymbals, some of the best we've heard. But
we weren't selling them online; we think because people want to hear higher priced cymbals in
person. That's fine with us; we agree you should be confident about
your spending decision when a cymbal costs upwards of $200. As a
result we reduced our Energy stock.
More recently, however, Rob attended the
Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in November
and worked at the Dream exhibit, where he was able to personally
select a few Energy cymbals. As a result, all our Energy stock were
Seller's Choice cymbals. Not surprisingly, except for a 16" crash
and two pairs of hats, they all sold.
Until we can hand select more, we're going
to keep our stock of Energy cymbals low. They're still available, but
by personal request only. Please contact us if you're interested.
One of the
finest examples of a ride. Beautiful, great frequency distribution
throughout. Has crash capabilities too. No regrets for the buyer of this
one.
The HAN’s are a much
larger version with huge bells, more than 50% of the total diameter, and a
1-2” lip (approximately). They come in 10" 11" and 12" and list for $99,
$105 and $110 each.
They sound very much like
an Ice Bell or the famed Zil-bell, but cleaner and more melodic. They remind
us of something Terry Bozzio would use.
Most of our sound files include
the cymbal by itself and also with the entire drum set.
Want that big ride sound? Listen to the amazing Dream Bliss 24" small bell, flat rides.
